Nucleosynthesis in Type Ii Supernovae

Presupernova evolution and explosive nucleosynthesis in massive stars for main-sequence masses from 13 M ⊙ to 70 M ⊙ are calculated. We examine the dependence of the super-nova yields on the stellar mass, 12 C(α, γ) 16 O rate, and explosion energy. The supernova yields integrated over the initial mass function are compared with the solar abundances.

Binary Evolution of Type Ia Supernovae

Observations of Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) combined with modeling of dynamics, light curves and spectra continue to point to the difficult conclusion that SN Ia result from degenerate ignition in a carbon/oxygen white dwarf of the Chandrasekhar mass. Such a model accounts well for the “normal” SN Ia and for the observed dispersion exemplified by the light curve amplitude-shape relation. The cri...

Recent Type II Radio Supernovae

We present the results of radio observations, taken primarily with the Very Large Array, of Supernovae 1993J, 2001gd, 2001em, 2002hh, 2004dj, and 2004et. We have fit a parameterized model to the multi-frequency observations of each supernova. We compare the observed and derived radio properties of these supernovae by optical classification and discuss the implications.

Moderately luminous type II Supernovae ?

Context. Core-collapse Supernovae (CC-SNe) descend from progenitors more massive than about 8 M . Because of the young age of the progenitors, the ejecta may eventually interact with the circumstellar medium (CSM) via highly energetic processes detectable in the radio, X–ray, ultraviolet (UV) and, sometimes, in the optical domains. Aims. In this paper we present ultraviolet, optical and near in...

Carbon Monoxide in type II supernovae

Infrared spectra of two type II supernovae 6 months after explosion are presented. The spectra exhibit a strong similarity to the observations of SN 1987A and other type II SNe at comparable epochs. The continuum can be fitted with a cool black body and the hydrogen lines have emissivities that are approximately those of a Case B recombination spectrum. The data extend far enough into the therm...
